How to Start Refreshing Your Closet: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide
Hey y’all, Tyler here.
So you’ve realized it’s time to refresh your closet (maybe you saw yourself in this post?). But where do you actually start when things feel overwhelming or this is your first time?
You dont need to color-code everything or buy all new accessories to get started. Sometimes, the best transformations begin with small, intentional steps, and I will be breaking it down right here.
Step 1 - Do a Quick Purge
Start by taking a honest look at your clothes. Go peice by peice and ask yourself:
Do I wear this?
Does it fit me right now?
Do I love how I feel in it?
Make yourself three piles: Keep, Donate, and Let Go. This one step alone can free up so much space from your closet and shift your mindset on your ability to complete a closet refresh.
Step 2 - Group What You’re Keeping
Once you’ve got your “keep” items, start grouping them into categories: pants, shorts, tops, dresses, gym clothes, etc. This will help you see where you have overflow or gaps and itll help in the process of placing these items back (next steps)
Step 3 - Choose a Feature Area to Start With
Instead of trying to redo your whole closet at once, pick a Feature area. For me, I usually start with my folded bottoms, since that shelving system sits right in the center of my closet and catches my eyes first.
Start organizing just that one area with intention, curiosity, and passion. Fold neatly, stack by color or use (I usually do less worn items towards the bottom shelves), and adjust placement so it feels easy to maintain down the road.
Step 4 - Expand Slowly From What Worked
Once that area feels good, build out from there. Use what worked (and what didn’t) in your feature area to guide how you approach the rest of your closet. Think of it like setting the tone and letting the system expand naturally.
Step 5 - Know When to Ask for Help
If you hit a wall or really you want more struct, I got you.
You can fill out my intake form to book a virtual consultation, and I’ll send over a custom Closet Refresh Plan with layout ideas, product recs, and a clear game plan. And if you try all this and realize you’d rather just hand it off, I can do the full makeover for you too.
Remember, you dont need to be perfect to get started.
Just take one intentional step, and you’ll be surprised how quickly things begin to shift in your closet refresh project. Whether your organizing your own space or handing me the reins, your dream closet is absolutely within reach!
Lets get Tidy,
Tyler
